The 2-axis Delta was specially developed for extra fast pick & place tasks. It can be used for pick and place tasks, conveyor belt picking, sorting tasks or stacking tasks. The Delta robot as 2-axis kinematics is supplied in two different sizes with matching controllers. 

The weight of an end effector will decrease the available payload of your robot.

Typical applications of our drylin® delta robots are pick and place, conveyor belt picking and stacking tasks in three-dimensional space. In combination with a gripper or suction cup, picking tasks can be implemented very quickly.

At this year's Automatika, our integrator STL demonstrated how robots from Universal Robots and igus work together in one application. With the magnetic end effector, the 3-axis Delta picks up the workpieces and places them in the workspace of the UR10. From there, the workpieces are then sorted.

The different robots are each suitable for different demanding tasks. In combination and with the right accessories, they can fully automate complete processes.

There are many automation options in the packaging areas of a company. In our example, the customer wanted the packaging to be placed from A to B via an assembly line. For the implementation, a 2-axis Delta robot was equipped with a Schmalz Mini Cobot pump. This made it possible to implement the application without any problems.

In this application, a classic pick-and-place scenario was presented in combination with a conveyor belt. The 2-axis Delta robot reaches for the components on the conveyor belt at the specified intervals with the 2-finger vacuum gripper and sorts them into the metal box.

Such monotonous tasks are often still performed by employees in a shift system and can represent a heavy workload. With an easy-to-implement automation solution like the one in this application, employees are relieved and the investment pays for itself in just a few months.

Automated handling of snail shells

In this particular customer application, the task was to transport snail shells to various positions within a cycle time defined by the customer. The main challenge was selecting an appropriate end effector, as the snail shells needed to remain undamaged throughout the process.

After careful consideration and analysis of the requirements, the decision was made to use a SoftGripper. This type of gripper is characterized by its flexibility and adaptability, allowing it to conform to the shape of the delicate snail shells. This not only ensures safe transportation but also minimizes the risk of damage.

The choice of the SoftGripper was crucial for the success of the application, as conventional grippers, due to their rigid structure, would not have been able to handle the fragile snail shells without causing damage. By using the SoftGripper, the required cycle time could be met while preserving the integrity of the snail shells.

In this video, we present an innovative solution for downstream sprue separation in injection molding production. This application uses a Delta robot, IRC, Zimmer gripper, camera, rotary conveyor, and step feeder to optimize the process and maximize efficiency.

The video demonstrates the operation of the rotary conveyor and the camera for precise detection and separation of sprues. The Zimmer gripper is shown in action, handling the sprues safely and efficiently. The step feeder supports the process with its precise conveying technique.

In this video, we present an advanced solution for downstream sprue separation of clip bearings in injection molding production. The application utilizes a Delta robot system, IRC, rotary conveyor, an igus vacuum gripper with rotation unit, and a Zimmer gripper to optimize the process and increase efficiency.

The setup of the Delta robot and the integration of the IRC are shown, as well as the operation of the rotary conveyor and the camera for precise detection and separation of sprues. The igus vacuum gripper with rotation unit is demonstrated in action, handling the clip bearings safely and efficiently. The Zimmer gripper complements the process with its precise gripping technique. The entire system operates smoothly and efficiently thanks to reliable power and data transmission.

The benefits of this solution include increased production speed, reduced scrap, and improved workplace safety. Additionally, a low footprint is ensured, facilitating integration into various production environments.

As part of a customer test in the Customer Testing Area of igus in Cologne, a test setup was realized for a customer. The aim of the test was to evaluate the pick-and-place process for the food industry. Specifically, the aim was to pick and place mushrooms from the conveyor belt.
